Snow Goose Hunting on South Dakota Lakes
Snow goose hunting is now in full swing in the Eastern South Dakota flyway. For a while they were stopped in Northern SD but arrived in the Lake Preston/Lake Thompson area of South Dakota since the middle of last week. They are expected to be around for quite awhile as there haven’t been any real cold snaps to push them out.
Since the snow gesse arrived there have been a lot of people out hunting. The people hunting the snow geese are getting quick limits in the mornings without a lot of work to it. Set up the blind and the decoys, shoot your 20 snow geese and pick up and go home. That’s how easy limits of geese have been to shoot. Snow goose hunting doesn’t get much better than that.
A couple of the reasons the geese hang around is the lakes are still open and all the cornfields and and bean fields that are picked make for good feeding for the snow geese so they stick around. South Dakota lakes and the feed is what keep the geese. If you’re looking for some South Dakota lake maps or GPS coordinates for lakes in the Eastern half of SD check out that link.
