History of Football Games

            Football is one of the sports that drives many a fan crazy and it can be said that football is one of the most watched and enjoyed sport of all time. Football, in the beginning was played in different ways in different parts of the world; however later on there was a version of the game that become popular.

How football came into existence

            Games using the ball came into existence in Egypt as early as 1800 CE and there were also claims that the people of ancient China played them too. In the eastern parts of the world was the time of the Han Dynasty when the people played a game where they kicked a leather ball that was filled with feathers and hair. The players were not allowed to use the arms while playing but were allowed the use of the chest and shoulders for the game. These football facts were recorded which proved as evidence to the age old history of this splendorous game.

            The medieval football played in England had no limits in the number of players and there were not much of football rules involved. They were so violent that the Lord Mayor had the game banned in 1314. It was in the end of fourteenth century that the term ‘football’ was coined. There were also times when the game was banned in the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. The popularity of the game also reached Ireland as well.

            Though the various versions of football had origins in various places; the modern game that is played to this day originated in England later in the nineteenth century as the game was made popular in England since the Middle Ages. The first Football Association was formed in England when the Rugby and association football branched off on different courses.

            The current version of football has the basic football rules that date back to the ancient times. The present version has eleven players on each side and the aim of the teams is to score as many goals as possible and at the same time prevent the opponent team from scoring goals. There must be no hands used in the game unless the players have to place the ball on the ground. The ball must not be kicked while it is in the air, etc.

History of American Football

            The history of American football dates back to 1869 when there were twenty players in each team. The football played in America looked very much similar to rugby and was as violent. This led to the game being banned in many colleges and after which the number of players were reduced to eleven. Following a few serious injuries and fatalities, the rules of the game were modified.
