Learning MMA is the best workout you can get
MMA is one of the world’s fastest growing sports. The term stands mixed martial art, and is a fighting form that combines the best of boxing and wrestling, with eastern martial arts like Karate and Jiu Jitsu. If you want to learn mma, you have to have basic skills in fighting both on the ground and standing up.
Boxing and wrestling are the most common backgrounds to have before you start a professional MMA career. Many of the best MMA athletes have been college champion wrestlers, and some have been professional boxers. But, just knowing one of these skills won’t take you far. As an example, if you put a boxing heavyweight champion of the world in a ring or octagon with an average MMA fighter, the champion boxer would be defeated in probably less than a minute, 9 out of 10 times. That’s how different the two sports are.
Learning skills like MMA means that you have to train in a variety of martial arts. Most have their base in boxing and wrestling, as I mentioned, but many (if not more) come from BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). BJJ can be said to be one of the forefathers of mixed fighting. The Grazie family adapted the Japanese style Jiu Jitsu to mimic real-life fighting, and it has proven to be very effective over the years. This is a great sport to start training if you want to learn mma.
You might think that MMA is too barbaric for you, but that might not be the case. Joining a boxing, wrestling, or BJJ, club for beginners means that you will be coached alongside other beginner students just like you. The sparing is often moderated so that it is light and nobody gets hurt. It can be great fun, and is one of the best workouts you can get!
