Snowboarding Videos – shoot for thrills!

July 20th, 2011

Document the good times with snowboarding videos – share them!

If you are an aspiring entrepreneur, making snowboard videos may be a wonderful opportunity for you to make some cash AND to get some thrills.

Capturing dos and don’ts on film can make a lot of money if advertised as a how to video. After all, who wouldn’t want to know the right way to do things and the way not to do them if you are just starting out as a snowboarder? This can be a helpful tool that proves very profitable to you.

Slim cameras are far easier to pull out of the jacket pocket with gloves on when you are snowboarding rather than a bulky camera that can get stuck in your clothing. And find one that has the largest shutter button possible (and no touchscreens). Since subzero temperatures can drain batteries very quickly, make sure that you carry a spare battery.

Snowboarding can be done anywhere there is snow, so you don’t have to take a family vacation to the mountains to be able to capture great footage for snowboarding videos. Many communities now have ski hills that double as snowboarding courses.

Snowskating – what is it?

November 7th, 2010

Going Strapless! Its about the freedom, not being tied down by bindings. Yes it is harder and yes a bit more dangerous. A few short years ago they were not allowed on the Mountains here in Tahoe, not they are at Heavenly Ski Resort, Sierra and Kirkwood. Sierra is the hub for a lot of snowskaters on the South Shore of Tahoe. The mountain is set up great for snowskaters. Besides the Mountains, it is great fun on snowy days. Take snow hill and equals fun. Even freinds who would not be out on one on the mountain will always step up to the plate on the road or at a golf course.

So what are they, well there are different types, but most start with a skate deck. Some are a skate deck with a heavy coating of plastic on the bottom, while others a skate deck with 3 skies on the bottom. The one that I prefer is a skate deck with a single ski on the bottom. The ski has a edge just like a snow ski. This design allows for speed, control and more control and ability to jib and grind.

No matter what style of snowskate you choose, get ready. They are going to grab you and you will be out on the mountain every chance you get.

The Intriguing History Of Snowboard Bindings

November 4th, 2010

Snowboards have not always had bindings. If you look at the history of snowboarding bindings, you’ll find that it has a very interesting trajectory.

There is little doubt, however that even starting with its early beginnings, the chief rationale for having the binding has been to keep the feet of the snowboarder correctly kept in place and tight enough so that it is not too difficult for the snowboarder to transfer his energy on to the snowboard.

And, when one looks at the modern cap strap binding one can’t help but notice that these altered bindings are a far cry from those that were used and which have been recorded in the history of early snowboarding. And these new type of binding are today very tight fitting especially at the cup of the toe so that the snowboarder can get the best in edge control.

Learning to Snowboard Well

April 20th, 2010

A decent certified instructor has a lot of advantages. Not only will he help you to learn to snowboard well, but he will be able to help you with intangibles as well. For example, he can give you tips on how to go about selecting the right snowboard for yourself, how to determine the best types of snow to snowboard in, as well as giving you advice on the best types of clothing to wear.

The advantage in learning the basics first and learning good snowboarding habits from the outset, is that there are less bad habits to unlearn as you progress in the sport. For example, one good habit to get into is to strap into the front snowboard binding first. You need your back foot free for skating to and from the chair lift. In addition, get into the habit of removing the loose snow from the binding. These, as well as similar small tips like this are the things that a good snowboard instructor will teach you.

Information about good quality skateboard bearings.

January 21st, 2009

There are no specific standard rating guidelines for skateboard bearings. The most common types of bearings are wheel bearings. By disparate comparison, expert skateboarders estimate the precision of the bearings and know that the good ones fall under 3 or 5, using the ABEC system of rating bearings used in machines. These bearings can give you a smooth ride but at the same time, they are strong enough to bear the brunt when you jump on your board. But not all manufacturers consider the ABEC when producing skateboard bearings. You wouldnt really know their performance until you try them out yourself.

At the store, you may ask assistance in replacing the bearings on your skateboard. But the procedure is quite easy. Skateboard wheels there should be no problem if you do it yourself. You will need a skate key. If you dont have one, a screwdriver will be fine. Next, using the screwdriver, pry out the old bearings from the wheels. After that, grab the new bearing and place it at the end of the skate key or screwdriver. Press the bearing into the wheel with even pressure. Do the same to the other wheel. Now put those on the tracks and youre done.

The main part of skateboard is its deck.

January 21st, 2009

The largest part of skateboard is its deck. This is the part of the skateboard where you stand on and that the rest of the parts are attached to. The deck plays a very significant role in your ability to control and maneuver the skateboard as a whole. Smaller sized persons are able to do more with a thin deck than larger people. Yet, if you have a certain size of deck in mind, you want to get one that is a proper match for your body. The standard deck size is from 7 inches to 8 inches. It may not seem like that could make much of a difference but it does. What do you want to be able to do the most with your skateboard? This is significant to consider as well when you select a deck. If you want to be able to do a range of flips and tricks you want to have smaller sized decks.

It will be practical to select one that is at least 32″ in length. There are some exceptions to this though so if you want to be able perform something out of the ordinary you will need to take that into consideration. The length of the deck isn’t as vital as the width, but in the overall scheme of things it isn’t something you want to ignore either. Also, pay a close attention to the set up of the nose and tail of the skateboard deck to be able to perform your type of skating on it. The more curved the deck is in these areas the easier it will be for you to perform a array of tricks. If your goal is to be able to successfully learn to do more complicated tricks then this type of skateboard decks may be what you need in order to do so.

Skiing or Snowboarding Is A Great Sport

September 8th, 2008

A lot of people ski as a leisure pursuit and leave the Olympic ambitions to the daredevils. Snowboarding is now very popular with the young. It seems a crazy thing to do racing down slopes on planks of wood. Having tried it myself, I know how thrilling it could be. But I still prefer skiing to snowboarding.

I have skied in many places around the world but nothing can beat Alpine Skiing when the sun shines and the snow glitters in the sunlight. I enjoy very much Alpine skiing and wish everyone could at least try it one time.

Picking out a snowboard can be difficult because there are so many brands and types to choose from. Three major types of boards are freestyle, alpine, and freeride. When picking out a snowboard, you need to determine what style of riding you are going to be doing, and get a board specific to that type of riding. If you are going to be spending your time in the half-pipe a freestyle board is best for you. Freeride is best if you are going to be making runs down the hill, and alpine will be best if you are up for some high-speed racing.

Girls Snowboarding Skills

May 2nd, 2007

Never discount the learning experience that you can get through teaching girls snowboarding skills. Even the simplest of techniques can be revised and made even simpler with a little practice, so thinking in terms of keeping it simple and real can be a great way to go about teaching your class. Don’t be nervous, either, as girls will catch on to any sort of emotional deviation from the norm and won’t be as confident as you need them to be when you start your class. You need to let every girl in your class know that she has the ability to fly down those hills, take that big air, and get down on those moguls with the prowess of a professional female snowboarder.
