January 1st, 2010

Even in the current year, Lake Tahoe skiing packages remain a top choice among winter destination travelers. Just recently Lake Tahoe was touted as being the number one ski and travel destination chosen from vacationers who booked from the major online travel sites.

The entirety of Lake Tahoe encompasses nearly 25,000 acres of skiing spread amongst 18 resorts. It has areas for both downhill and cross-country skiing. In addition, Lake Tahoe is the only resort where you can ski down into two states -California and Nevada. Of particular interest is Diamond Peak.

The Diamond Peak resort is considered great for families. It’s well known and popular, but not too popular that it becomes overcrowded. In fact, it’s one of the least crowded of the major Lake Tahoe skiing resorts. And the scenic views of the lake itself are breathtaking.

Skiing or Snowboarding Is A Great Sport

September 8th, 2008

A lot of people ski as a leisure pursuit and leave the Olympic ambitions to the daredevils. Snowboarding is now very popular with the young. It seems a crazy thing to do racing down slopes on planks of wood. Having tried it myself, I know how thrilling it could be. But I still prefer skiing to snowboarding.

I have skied in many places around the world but nothing can beat Alpine Skiing when the sun shines and the snow glitters in the sunlight. I enjoy very much Alpine skiing and wish everyone could at least try it one time.

People, Who Snow Ski, Must Be Crazy!

September 7th, 2007

It’s so cold, it’s so wet, and it’s so dangerous? Please let me share why we are not Crazy!

For Everyone.

Snow skiing is one of the really exciting sports that combine exhilaration, fellowship, ambience and adventure, for all levels of participants. In Europe, children are being taught to ski as young as 2 years old and on the same slopes there are people over 90 years young. There are people of every nationality, race, creed and colour. There are one armed, one legged and even blind people, involved everywhere, at some level. What is the appeal of a sport that brings so many different people together, amidst the cold snow, in the sprit of friendliness and just having a good time?

Challenge.

Everyone that takes up skiing, no matter their current skill level, can find a place on the slopes to be thrilled and challenged. Whether it is the brand new, novice skier on the nursery slopes (even if 18 years old) tentatively trying his very first snow plough in a desperate attempt to stop, or whether it is the level 1 skier, gracefully carving out sweeping curves across the face of the virgin, freshly fallen snow. Everyone will find his or her challenge.

Fun.

Skiing is always fun. We put ourselves into ridiculous situations in the company of others doing the same and we seldom stop laughing. Watch people coming off the chair lift. Perhaps we see the super cool youngster, trying to impress his girlfriend, heads off on one ski, collides with the group in front, and collapse into a heap of tangled skis and bodies. And see how they are all laughing. Perhaps you will see a group of skiers following the ski instructor in graceful sweeping turns until someone loses control and takes the whole group into a snowdrift. And watch as they climb out, covered from head to toe in snow and almost hysterical in their laughter.

Cross Country Skiing Tips – Make Your Vacation More Enjoyable

April 17th, 2007

There are different techniques used in the sport and many different events, such as sprint, relay and pursuit. Races take place over various distances, including long distance cross country skiing known as Ski Marathons. The longest distance of these events, at 160 km, is the Canadian Ski Marathon. There are international competitions and a World Cup. The sport has been included in the Winter Olympics since 1924 for men and since 1952 for women. The Biathlon, a combination of Nordic skiing and rifle shooting, has featured in the Olympics since 1960. Norway leads the table of most medals that have been won in the Nordic category. Free Power-Packed Information Book Detailing Everything There Is To Know About Ski Mountaineering And Ski Vactions

March 23rd, 2007

The most important difference between summer and winter camping is the necessity, in winter, of maintaining warmth. For a short time before the winter camper turns in, a wood fire built on green poles laid on the snow, or the small gasoline cook stove in the tent, will make available some heat; but by and large, both on the trail and in camp, the human body must produce sufficient heat to maintain normal temperature. If the interior body temperature drops two degrees, intense shivering results, further lowering of temperature produces sluggishness and coma, and finally, at somewhere between 70° and 75°, death ensues.

We must then consider the human body as a heat-producing machine and determine (1) what can be done to increase the amount of heat manufactured by the body, and (2) what can be done to conserve this heat.

Production of body heat.—A normal male adult at rest, as in sleeping or loafing, liberates approximately 50 calories of heat per hour. This can be increased appreciably by eating or by exposure to cold. The only other means by which skiers may increase heat output is muscular action.

Violent exercise will increase heat output as much as sixteen times.

Discover The Little Known Skiing Lessons Guaranteed To Have You Skiing Like A Pro In No Time!

March 14th, 2007

Once you have decided to learn how to ski you must turn your attention to the most important matter for beginners, advanced pupils and “big shots” alike—the equipment. The smallest mistake in your equipment or bad advice when buying it may mean all the difference between pleasure and misery, success or failure.

Clothing

The best advice I can give is that you should combine chic with utility. Unfortunately a great deal that appears chic serves no useful purpose but, on the other hand, to be practical does not necessarily mean that you must be inelegant. One only has to see how charming many of the girl-beginners look today on their ” boards “.

Let us start from the feet upwards. The boots must fit as though the feet had been poured into them. When you buy a pair, try them on wearing a pair of thick and a pair of thin socks. Most boots give a little in the course of time, particularly those made of raw hide. For racing they must be secured so tightly that on reaching the goal they must immediately be unfastened. Let me say at once that a pair of ski boots can never be a comfortable pair of ballroom slippers. It is absolutely essential that the foot sit firmly in the boot so that one has a firm stance.

Aspen Ski Vacations

March 12th, 2007

Aspen Mountain has long been known as the playpen of the rich and famous – and it is. But it is also a great place to take a family ski vacation. Christmas in Aspen is especially wonderful! Aspen Mountain rises above the town of Aspen, with a top elevation of 11215 feet and a vertical drop of 3269 feet. There are 76 trails suitable for beginners, intermediates, and experts, accessible by eight lifts, including seven chair lifts and one cable car line.

While Aspen has much to offer skiers, as well as those who enjoy the night life in a ski town, you should expect lots of crowds and lift lines on the slopes. Again, this is the playpen of the rich and famous, and many people choose this ski vacation spot simply for that reason – as well as for the great runs and nightlife.

There are numerous places to stay in and around Aspen, with more than 100 restaurants to choose from as well. Ski instructions and equipment rental are abundant in the area, and snowboarders are welcome.

Who Else Wants To Learn To Ski With A Step-By-Step System Guaranteed To Have You Skiing Like A Pro In No Time!

March 8th, 2007

To get the maximum enjoyment out of ski-ing, it is very important to have the right son of equipment

The actual make of ski, etc., is not necessarily decisive. But what is important is the choice of equipment best suited to the kind of skiing you intend to do.

The pictures in this book illustrate the most suitable equipment [or touring, as well  as  for  downhill  running  and  slalom.

For towing.

The touring ski is the type most used in all sorts of snow conditions and when traveling across varied country.

Beginners would do best to choose a Fairly pliant ski. Heavily-built skiers should choose  longer  and  rather  stiffer   skis.

Length: With the arm raised vertically above the head, the tip- of the skis should reach as far as your palm. A good average  width   is:   3″  at   the  point  of   curvature,  narrowing by about half an inch where the bindings are situated, and widening to 2½” at the back.

Steel or aluminium edges, mounted along the bottom edge of the middle of the ski, are a great advantage.

Bindings: As a rule the best binding for touring is an ordinary slalom binding, which can be converted to a touring binding by running the cable under lugs set on either side, under the toe-iron. This provides a useful and practical combination of touring and slalom binding.
