Best of MMA 2009

January 20th, 2010

The year 2009 was one of the best years for MMA. Fans around the world were witnesses to some of the best matches ever taking place inside an octagon or a ring. Future stars were born, and other stars just shined brighter.

Probably the best lineup ever was the UFC 100 card, which featured two title matches and a host of other great fights. Lesnar rose as the new star of MMA and St. Pierre cemented his position as a top 3 pound for pound.

But 2009 was also the year of injuries. The last quarter of the year we saw fighter after fighter having to withdraw from scheduled fights. The worst withdrawal of all was Lesnar’s due to a stomach illness, that just recently was confirmed to be a serious intestine decease. Luckily, he will be back for the summer of 2010 to defend his title.

This was also the year of big knockouts. The best MMA knockout of the year, in my book, goes to Dan Henderson over Michael Bisping. The shot was brutal, and the knockout complete. Fedor E. also had a couple of highlight knockouts during the year, notably against Arlowski and Buck Rogers, cementing his spot as the number one MMA fighter of all time.

All that is left now is to see what 2010 has in store. I am certain that it will be just as good as last year, and hopefully even better.

UFC Tickets Hard To Find?

July 29th, 2009

UFC Tickets can be hard to get. Fans just can’t get enough of this “new” sport which is a blending of many disciplines taking the best from each. The excitement is palpable. A title match can be over in 30 seconds or last 30 minutes. Everything can change in a second. In my opinion, that is a big reason for its popularity.

Many people say that MMA and the UFC is dangerous because it teaches youngsters that fighting is ok and should even to be revered. But if you were to ban anything and everything violent, then we would have to ban professional wrestling, video games and yes, our other beloved Olympic sports mentioned above. However, since society is not willing to give these sports up, there is no reason to single out MMA and the UFC.

Mixed martial arts is just that - mixed. It is a blending of many other types of fighting. The UFC features fighters from wrestling, boxing, muay thai, jui jitsu and tae kwon do backgrounds (almost all of which are Olympic sports). If these sports are good enough to attract the best athletes from around the world to compete in an event that honors them as such, why shouldn’t a sport that encompasses each of these styles be good enough? The answer is it should be good enough - and it is.

Ever wanted UFC tickets to a live event? They can be very hard to find, but not impossible. Its worth the effort.
