Ancient Chinese Martial Arts and Kung Fu Panda?

January 20th, 2011

You might think they are just characters in the animated movie, Kung Fu Panda, but Snake, Crane, and Tiger are 3 of the 5 Animals of Kung Fu. The other two being Leopard and Dragon. Sorry, as much as I like Jack Black, but Panda fist form did not make the list.

The 5 animal styles of Kung Fu are very popular, and seriously deadly. Those who study powerful ancient Chinese martial arts and other martial arts styles, know any of these five forms are very deadly and make one more than capable of defending themselves against anything that comes their way.

There are many martial arts that claim to be able to kill with a touch, and their secrets are sought after all over the world. Although it can be interesting to research and study these traditions, it is important to keep in mind that the goal of modern martial arts students should not be to kill an enemy, but to effectively incapacitate him without causing overwhelming damage.

Although many people think of martial arts as being just for self defense purposes, this isn’t always the case. Martial arts are used in tournaments and competitions as well, which can include sparring, floor routines, and even block and brick breaking demonstrations.

The ancient Chinese martial arts evolved in a much more lawless world where personal self-defense counted for a lot. These days, you rarely have to kill or be killed. All across the world, there are competitions and chances for fighters to prove themselves and their knowledge without having to seriously injury anyone, even though with techniques like the 5 animals they more than likely could.

Cross fighting – A Recent Sporting activities Alternative

September 27th, 2010

A modern sport that has made lots of fans, mixed martial arts or MMA uses a high diversity of fighting techniques from traditional and non-traditional practices. Mixed martial arts news on championships, clubs, ultimate fighting techniques and lots of other subjects can be accessed on many Internet sites deal with this modern sports alternative. MMA popularity goes back to the early 90s when the Ultimate Fighting Championship was advertised as a ‘no rules competition’. This meant that the matches allowed all sorts of moves considered dangerous and even deadly. Over the following decade the implementation of additional safety measures brought less mixed martial arts news about injuries.

Once there were distinct rules to apply to matches, the myth of ‘fight-to-the-death’ combat was debunked and MMA gained official recognition. These changed increased the fighters’ safety and brought mixed martial arts news more into the attention of the public. Equipment, techniques, weight classes and plenty of other details were established as standards too, although flexibility and constant evolution remain major features of mixed martial arts. This is possible thanks to the combination of different fighting styles and the possibility to import any tactics and techniques without hindrance.

You can now watch mixed martial arts news on the sports channels of best reputed TV networks or log in on Internet sites that provide more comprehensive details on the various MMA events, athletes, equipment and techniques. There are even web pages where you can find detailed instructions and video files about how to improve MMA techniques. Tips for amateurs from professionals are in fact the most web searched topic related to MMA besides the regular mixed martial arts news. And this is all owing to the cool image of manhood that is attributed to mixed martial arts fighters.

A modern phenomenon that corresponds to an ancient human instinct, fighting in an organized environment seems to keep negative energies under control. As long as the violence level does not increase outside the fighting cage, then, MMA remain just one other sport among the others. Hence, encouraging perspectives can be expected from mixed martial arts news in the sense that they should offer role models not negative examples of bad conduct. Could we actually be witnessing the transition to a new dimension of violence or the taming of the animal instinct that has always been present with man?

Best of MMA 2009

January 20th, 2010

The year 2009 was one of the best years for MMA. Fans around the world were witnesses to some of the best matches ever taking place inside an octagon or a ring. Future stars were born, and other stars just shined brighter.

Probably the best lineup ever was the UFC 100 card, which featured two title matches and a host of other great fights. Lesnar rose as the new star of MMA and St. Pierre cemented his position as a top 3 pound for pound.

But 2009 was also the year of injuries. The last quarter of the year we saw fighter after fighter having to withdraw from scheduled fights. The worst withdrawal of all was Lesnar’s due to a stomach illness, that just recently was confirmed to be a serious intestine decease. Luckily, he will be back for the summer of 2010 to defend his title.

This was also the year of big knockouts. The best MMA knockout of the year, in my book, goes to Dan Henderson over Michael Bisping. The shot was brutal, and the knockout complete. Fedor E. also had a couple of highlight knockouts during the year, notably against Arlowski and Buck Rogers, cementing his spot as the number one MMA fighter of all time.

All that is left now is to see what 2010 has in store. I am certain that it will be just as good as last year, and hopefully even better.

UFC Tickets Hard To Find?

July 29th, 2009

UFC Tickets can be hard to get. Fans just can’t get enough of this “new” sport which is a blending of many disciplines taking the best from each. The excitement is palpable. A title match can be over in 30 seconds or last 30 minutes. Everything can change in a second. In my opinion, that is a big reason for its popularity.

Many people say that MMA and the UFC is dangerous because it teaches youngsters that fighting is ok and should even to be revered. But if you were to ban anything and everything violent, then we would have to ban professional wrestling, video games and yes, our other beloved Olympic sports mentioned above. However, since society is not willing to give these sports up, there is no reason to single out MMA and the UFC.

Mixed martial arts is just that – mixed. It is a blending of many other types of fighting. The UFC features fighters from wrestling, boxing, muay thai, jui jitsu and tae kwon do backgrounds (almost all of which are Olympic sports). If these sports are good enough to attract the best athletes from around the world to compete in an event that honors them as such, why shouldn’t a sport that encompasses each of these styles be good enough? The answer is it should be good enough – and it is.

Ever wanted UFC tickets to a live event? They can be very hard to find, but not impossible. Its worth the effort.
