October 18th, 2010

Home gym owners of any fitness level appreciate the low impact workouts and cardiovascular benefits of elliptical exercise machines. Some people compare the workout they get on elliptical exercise machines to pedaling on a stationary bike while standing up. The majority of elliptical exercise machines are equipped with upper handle bars that give users a truly total body workout. The best elliptical machines are, unsurprisingly, the more expensive ones.

Running Over Training – Some Tips.

September 26th, 2010

Olympic coaches are exquisitely aware of overtraining and know exactly how to hit the mark. Not long ago, the best of athletic wisdom out there felt that it was the sheer hours of training you put into your sport that helped you improve. Now coaches understand that there is a point beyond which a lot of training doesn’t really help you that much, and only puts you in danger of overtraining. When it occurs, the signs are there for all to see – when an athlete seems to gain very little for crazy hours of training he puts in, that’s a sign. This can be taken definitely as a running tip for all of us. An athlete who isn’t pumping his fist and beaming with self-confidence after a training session is another sign. If an athlete is just exhausted all the time, it’s time to stop. It’s just that athletes completely give themselves over to the sport and never know when to stop.

Sports medicine specialists would be a great idea when you suspect a problem. Sometimes they’ll give you blood tests to test for certain kinds of chemicals known as Ferritins that appear at very low levels in people who overtrain.

How to get the most out of your running shoes

April 29th, 2010

It seems like these days everyone is on a fitness kick. This is no surprise given all of the news reports about obesity, high blood pressure, and our general lack of fitness. Running is one type of exercise that many people take up in order to stave off those extra kilos, or to get rid of them once and for all. Running and jogging are sports that most people can do, given enough time. They are easy to do in different types of weather, and they don’t require expensive equipment. Let’s face it, running is certainly cheaper than buying a gym membership or going rock climbing! Really, the only type of equipment you’ll need for your new running hobby is jogging shoes.

Running shoes are a special type of sports shoe that are calibrated for running. There are other types of sports shoes, such as basketball shoes, walking shoes, and cross trainers. These are designed for different types of sporting activities. Jogging shoes are the best type of shoes for people who like to run and jog. They offer good support for your feet, and will protect you against injuries such as back pain, or sore knees or hips. For this reason, it is essential to buy a good pair of jogging shoes.

Running and jogging shoes can vary significantly in price. You probably don’t need to buy a top of the range pair unless you are a serious athlete or have money to burn. However, you don’t want to simply pick up the cheapest pair of shoes that you can find, either. Bear in mind that your runners are all that is protecting your feet from the jarring force of the pavement. A cheap pair of shoes may seem like a good idea in the short term, but they can cost you dearly if you end up injuring yourself because you didn’t buy a proper pair of shoes. Try checking with the shop assistant in your local sports specialty store to see what they recommend. Be realistic about your budget and about your running habits.

It’s essential that you get properly fitted for your runners. This is because not everyone’s feet are the same. In addition, people have different running styles and ways of placing their feet. This means that certain shoes are unsuitable for certain people. You want to ensure that you get a pair of shoes that is properly fitted to your feet and your running style. For example, if your feet roll out when you run, you’ll need a pair of shoes that corrects for this. This will stop you from doing damage to your joints and muscles in the long run.

Always make sure that you replace your jogging shoes regularly. Once a year is usually frequently enough for most people. However, if you run very often, or for long periods, you may need to replace your shoes more often. If you find that your jogging shoes’ soles are wearing thin, or that your joints are hurting after a run, it’s probably time to invest in a new pair of shoes.

Sensible Jogging Safety Tips – Ignore These at Your Peril

September 13th, 2007

Jogging is an extremely popular form of aerobic exercise. Unfortunately, we’ve all seen stories about joggers being mugged, assaulted, or worse. If you’d like to prevent yourself from becoming another statistic, take heed of these precautions.

1. Leave it Home

To make yourself a less desirable target, don’t carry valuables such as your wallet, watch, cell phone and jewelry (including your wedding ring) when running. Likewise, if you do like to jog to music, don’t carry a super-expensive radio or media player with you. If you aren’t carrying anything of value, thieves will have one less reason to choose you.

2. Safety in Numbers

Criminals prefer solitary victims. Jog with friends if possible. If you own a dog, take him along. The exercise is great for him, and it’s another problem for a would-be attacker. If you aren’t able to go jogging with other people…

Running Shoes Are A Must

July 23rd, 2007

Nowadays, I don’t have as many chances to play sports games as I used to. A lot of my sports equipment is sitting on outdoor shelving in my garage, gathering dust. Nonetheless, I still get to use some of the equipment sports every now and then. The outdoor sports equipment, in particular, has been getting use this spring. The weather has been wonderful, and it has been difficult to stay inside any more than I have to. I have been mountain biking, hiking, and I even got to play a friendly game of soccer. It has been nice to pull out the old sports equipment and try it on again.

One thing that always remains the same and in constant use are my running shoes.  More often I find myself wearing running shoes for the look as well as the function.  I would have to say the best pair I have owned are the Nike Shocks – so comfortable.

February 7th, 2007

You may end up trying to keep up with the beat of the music, or perhaps slowing down. You want to find jogging music that you can keep pace with comfortably as you go about your daily run. You don’t want to over exert yourself, and you certainly don’t want to slow down so that you aren’t getting much out of your run.
