Would you like to learn how to Para-Glide?

March 21st, 2011

The very first things you will notice about a Paraglider is the look of it. Somewhat like a sports parachute. It doesn’t have features like a skydivers chute where you will draw their rip-cord after diving off a plane, and the chute opens, sometimes with a smoke flare, just to make it look more appealing. A paraglider is inflated even prior to the actual flight, unlike the sports parachutes.

Many years ago, when the mountaineers found it tricky and dangerous to descend from their climbs by gliding off the hillside, using only a steerable parachute, they have to come up with a lighter, safer and better gliders. Their invention was then called para-gliders or paragliders.

The paragliders which are used now arrived from the wonders of aeronautical technical engineers in fabric and lines that are safe and easy to make use of. It consists of 30 or more cells between an upper and a lower sail surface, which is known as the canopy. To maintain the wing inflated throughout the flight, the cells are open at the front to allow the air to flow inside.

The amount of lines leading down the risers, are linked to the underside of the canopy. These risers are connected to the harness which is above the shoulder of the pilot. The brake toggles are also connected to the unique steering lines. The pilot pulls on these types of steering lines as it glides straight down. Though the lines that supports the pilot have really thin and light-weight materials, it is strong. It is structured in a manner that there many different points connected to the wing. This shapes the wing and permits control.

When taking off, the first stage is actually to inflate your wing. Right after you spread your wing on a hillside or the wide location behind you, make sure that your wing will approach the wind. The moment that’s carried out, start pulling on your A-risers, which are connected nearest to the front edge of the wing.

After some guidelines of how to obtain your wing filled with air and soaring up in the wind, the next thing to do is to kite your wing up. Yes, like how you would fly a kite. You deal with the breeze, hold the brake toggles approaching the wind until you’re off the floor!

How to Enjoy Water Sports in Comfort

December 27th, 2010

I have been a water sports enthusiast for pretty much most of my whole life. One thing I have learned is that to bond with a water sport it is really important to have the right equipment so you are comfortable, safe and you can be effective in order to have fun. I know many people who try a water sport for a brief time and quit because they were either too cold, didn’t have the right equipment and did not have a good initial experience they actually quit before they even really get started.

Taking a lesson is often what will get people off to a good start, a bit of education about what you need to be comfortable and feel safe will go a long way to having fun right away.

If you are doing a water sport in cold water the right wetsuit gear will make all the difference. Your comfort can also be dependent on knowing what gear is most effective for a specific water sport.

The Intriguing History Of Snowboard Bindings

November 4th, 2010

Snowboards have not always had bindings. If you look at the history of snowboarding bindings, you’ll find that it has a very interesting trajectory.

There is little doubt, however that even starting with its early beginnings, the chief rationale for having the binding has been to keep the feet of the snowboarder correctly kept in place and tight enough so that it is not too difficult for the snowboarder to transfer his energy on to the snowboard.

And, when one looks at the modern cap strap binding one can’t help but notice that these altered bindings are a far cry from those that were used and which have been recorded in the history of early snowboarding. And these new type of binding are today very tight fitting especially at the cup of the toe so that the snowboarder can get the best in edge control.

Surfing the Sport Of Kings

August 31st, 2010

The sign of a good surfer is that he is able to catch the wave before other surfers can. Beginners find it difficult to catch the wave at all. Once the wave is caught, the surfer can stand on the surfboard and stay in front of the curl of the wave, also known as the white water. The wave carries the surfer and takes him in a forward direction. A skilled surfer is able to take total charge of a challenging situation and at the same time maneuver like curving or turning. Some tricks practiced by experienced surfers are floater, cutback, air and off the lip. The most difficult trick is the surf inside the tube formed by the closed curl of the wave.

To surf in colder regions, its advisable to wear wetsuits, boots, gloves and hood to protect from cold-water temperatures, which can sometimes lead to hypothermia. You may also need a cure for tinnitus if you have swimmers ear. There are different styles of boards like egg or the long board style short board, fish or short and wide board with a split tail and gun with a long pointed board meant for big waves.

Traditional rock climbing terms

August 26th, 2010

There are many variations to the traditional rock climbing. They can be broadly classified into free climbing and aid climbing. Climbers do not use any kind of equipment in free climbing and in aid climbing; equipments are used to support the weight of the body against the rocks, which have less natural formation.

A climber should be mentally and physically be strong to overcome difficulties and having extensive knowledge can make the task easier. If you cannot sleep, do not dare do this. Initially the climbers can learn in pairs, while one learns to climb the other can belay or feed the rope from either end of the rock structure. In case the climber falls, the belayer can lock off the rope. When multiple climbers climb, the leader can connect a rope with carabiners or quickdraws as a protection measure. A more risky method, simul-climbing, involves the leader and the team members to move at the same time, giving less time to belay the rope.

Michelin Motorcycle Power One Race Tire

July 30th, 2010

Michelin has announced the new Power One race tire for motorcycles.
Let’s get acquainted with the new Power One as it utilizes a host of new technologies, we’ll start with here with “2CT” tech, the Power One employs what Michelin calls MRSE (Michelin Racing Synthetic Elastomers) compounds combined with HTSC (High Tech Synthetic Compound) resins. The idea is that Michelin’s particular mixture of compounds is aimed at providing fast warm-up times while offering great grip characteristics.

Another technology is the new NST (Near Slick Technology). The minimal tread patters covers only 5% of the tire’s surface, which really means that the tire is 95% slick, which maximizes the rubber patch ensuring outstanding contact with the road. Michelin claims the resulting traction helps facilitate lean angles approaching 60 degrees, which is incredible since these lean angles were not obtainable for the general riding public a few years ago.

However, these tires were designed as track day tires and for road racing. They are not optimal for everyday street use because they need to generate sufficient heat to accomplish maximum grip. In addition, they are not going to be ideal for wet riding conditions as the 95% slick pattern will only make wet weather riding a true white knuckle experience. Also, the will not last in terms of mileage; these tires are meant for winning races or making fast laps around a closed racing circuit (track day).
So, to sum it all up, the new Power One incorporates a new dual-compound technology in one tire. The hardest compound of rubber hardness/grip is found in the center. The softer compound is on each side of the tire where you need it the most for traction at extreme lean angles. These new Power One tires change the game when it comes to performance. Weight Loss Vs Muscle

April 26th, 2010

Muscle and liver storage of glycogen (carbohydrate) and water can affect body weight without effecting xtreme fat loss levels.

Following a bout of resistance training, and assuming adequate nutrition has been consumed with sufficient amounts of carbohydrate, the muscle and liver glycogen (carbohydrate) stores are filled to capacity. And for every 1 gram of glycogen stored, 3-4 grams of water is also stored.

(This is why muscles appear to be bigger and fuller the day after a weights session. The muscle hasn’t dramatically grown overnight; it’s just full of glycogen and water)

Learning to Snowboard Well

April 20th, 2010

A decent certified instructor has a lot of advantages. Not only will he help you to learn to snowboard well, but he will be able to help you with intangibles as well. For example, he can give you tips on how to go about selecting the right snowboard for yourself, how to determine the best types of snow to snowboard in, as well as giving you advice on the best types of clothing to wear.

The advantage in learning the basics first and learning good snowboarding habits from the outset, is that there are less bad habits to unlearn as you progress in the sport. For example, one good habit to get into is to strap into the front snowboard binding first. You need your back foot free for skating to and from the chair lift. In addition, get into the habit of removing the loose snow from the binding. These, as well as similar small tips like this are the things that a good snowboard instructor will teach you.

Learning MMA is the best workout you can get

January 23rd, 2010

MMA is one of the world’s fastest growing sports. The term stands mixed martial art, and is a fighting form that combines the best of boxing and wrestling, with eastern martial arts like Karate and Jiu Jitsu. If you want to learn mma, you have to have basic skills in fighting both on the ground and standing up.

Boxing and wrestling are the most common backgrounds to have before you start a professional MMA career. Many of the best MMA athletes have been college champion wrestlers, and some have been professional boxers. But, just knowing one of these skills won’t take you far. As an example, if you put a boxing heavyweight champion of the world in a ring or octagon with an average MMA fighter, the champion boxer would be defeated in probably less than a minute, 9 out of 10 times. That’s how different the two sports are.

Learning skills like MMA means that you have to train in a variety of martial arts. Most have their base in boxing and wrestling, as I mentioned, but many (if not more) come from BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu). BJJ can be said to be one of the forefathers of mixed fighting. The Grazie family adapted the Japanese style Jiu Jitsu to mimic real-life fighting, and it has proven to be very effective over the years. This is a great sport to start training if you want to learn mma.

You might think that MMA is too barbaric for you, but that might not be the case. Joining a boxing, wrestling, or BJJ, club for beginners means that you will be coached alongside other beginner students just like you. The sparing is often moderated so that it is light and nobody gets hurt. It can be great fun, and is one of the best workouts you can get!

Surfing – The Coolest Sport on Earth?

October 23rd, 2009

Hang Five Hot-Dogger

Surfers have their own cool language with words such as, hang five (putting five toes over the nose of your surfboard), curl (the break of a wave), pearls, wipe-out and hot-dogger (red hot surfer), which may all seem like double Dutch to the non surfer. However for the surfer, it’s his talk, he understands it and lives it.

The dream of surfing inspires lifestyles, journeys and freedom, but you need more than the right surfing gear in order to exercise this freedom wisely, especially if you are a novice and planning a surfing holiday. The surfing holiday needs to have plenty of training from a surf-pro or good surfing school and needs to be fit. Unless you are fit, you will be unable to meet the challenges or earn the right to this freedom.
