Online Sports Store

December 9th, 2011

It’s never been easier than it is today to buy sporting goods online. I could remember back in the day, if you wanted to purchase sporting goods the options were limited. Sure, you could go down to your local sporting goods retailer and find a decent selection of sports merchandise, but most of it was limited to the local sports teams. But, that is not the case anymore. With the internet and world wide web, all you have to do is go to a online sports store and there is no limit as to how much merchandise you can purchase. If for example you live in Boise Idaho, and your favorite player is Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, then all you have to do is hop online to an online sports store and you can with a click of a mouse buy an Aaron Rodgers football jersey. It’s really that easy.

Being Able to Dunk is One of The Greatest Experiences!

August 24th, 2011

Benefits of Squat Flex and Vertical Mastery

If you have done any research about improving your jump, you have probably already come across the Squat Flex equipment and the Vertical Mastery program. Two of the most popular products in the sports market, these are designed to improve your jump and your game! But how do they work, what benefits do they hold, and why are they better than other exercises or programs out there? Let’s find out!

Benefits of Squat Flex

Squat flex is a piece of equipment that is used to improve the strength in your legs and thereby improve your jump. More specifically, the squat flex is an advanced version of the regular squat. When it comes to weight training, squats are one of the most important exercises you can do because they target all of the muscle groups in the legs that are necessary for jumping.
If squats work so well, why do you even need the squat flex? Firstly, if you want to obtain any results with squatting, you will need a squat rack. Unless you have this in your home, you will need to travel to the gym on a regular basis. You will also need a spotter at all times. Barbells are heavy and if you use them without a spotter you could be putting yourself in danger. Of course, you could buy a squat rack and invite friends over to spot for you, but squat racks can cost over $2000 – that’s a lot of money to pay for an exercise! Squat Flex equipment is much cheaper and eliminates both the need for a gym membership and a spotter.
Another reason that squat flex is superior to regular squats is because regular squats can put a great deal of strain on your spine and lower bag. Over time, this can compress your vertebrae and cause severe damage. Squat Flex eliminates this risk and places the focus on your legs, not your back and spine.

Benefits of Vertical Mastery

Another product that many people are using to improve their jump is the Vertical Mastery program. Eliminating the need for a personal trainer, this software teaches you to develop your leg muscles and master your jump on your own time.
Of course, there are many programs out there that will train you to improve your jump, so what makes Vertical Mastery better than the rest? While there are many programs that will teach you new exercises and techniques to improve your jump, Vertical Mastery is the only one that will base your lessons on your own personal needs. Unlike other programs, Vertical Mastery assesses your strengths and weaknesses and develops a personalized program to help you improve in areas where needed.
When it comes to training, no two people are alike, so why should we all be treated and trained alike? We shouldn’t. The creators of the Vertical Mastery Program saw this flaw in other programs and improved on it to give you a personalized training program that will focus on training where you need it most.

If you are looking to improve your jumping abilities, Squat flex and Vertical Mastery are two products that you must try. Try either one or, for added benefits, try both!

Jump Higher for Basketball – Why Drilling with a Coach is Crucial

April 26th, 2011

When it comes down to physical ability coaching, such as vertical training, there are times you can decide to do it by yourself. Nonetheless the difficulty is, there will come a point when you would not understand how to correctly execute those truly difficult and advanced abilities.

In times such as this is, you’ll need the help of a dedicated coach. Learning the talents might be feasible to do by yourself, but shortly you will reach a level and not be able to build on what you know without outside help.

To reach bigger goals and be well placed to master them, it’d be ideal to have someone that is an expert to help get it precisely right. This is applicable to all known sports.

Find the Right Routine for a Higher Vertical Jump

December 27th, 2010

You have been always wondering how basketball stars can leap so high and rise above all other players. Do you want to find the answers on that? You just have to find the perfect jumping routines to make your vertical leap higher than before. I know it is not that easy. It involves a lot of factors to consider. Consulting a doctor to assess your present health status will be one of them. Of course, you cannot just undergo any extensive training without actually knowing if you have any diseases that would affect your health. Once you’re good to go, start with easy activities first. Make sure you do warm up movements to prepare your muscles and bones. This will also promote good blood circulation before you actually begin with your heavier exercises.

A Guide to Basketball Positions

October 4th, 2010

Basketball is a popular sport that continues to attract more and more fans, both in the United States and many countries around the globe. Much of this increase in popularity has stemmed from the game’s many popular superstars including players such as Candace Parker, Yao Ming and LeBron James, who compete at the highest level in the National Basketball Association. These players definitely contribute a lot to the growing popularity. Whether you are new to basketball altogether, or are slightly familiar with the basics, a better understanding to the basketball positions will help you enjoy the games more. Here is a guide to the five main basketball positions.

The first and arguably most important of the basketball positions is point guard. The point guard serves as the floor captain or quarterback of the offense. He or she is responsible for running the offense and has most of the ball handling responsibilities. The point guard tries to get the other four players involved in the offense by passing often and setting up plays.

Shooting guard is one of the most popular basketball positions, and for good reason. One of the easiest pleasures in basketball is shooting and making baskets and this attracts a variety of the most skilled and athletic players. The best shooting guards are able to score in a variety of ways and often are expected to lead the team in buckets scored.

Small forward is similar in terms of basketball positions with shooting guard, albeit with more versatility. Some small forwards are prized for non-scoring skills, like excellent rebounding or defense. However, the best small forwards function as something of a swiss-army knife, providing a variety of skills for the team.

The last two basketball positions are essentially the same: power forward and center. These are the tallest players on the team and are expected to provide a presence “down low”. These players usually lead the team in rebounding and blocking and chip in a lot of points in the paint.

Not one of the basketball positions is more important than the other. All of the different basketball positions require different skills and talents, and more important than any one player is that the group performs as a single team. The different approaches to the different basketball positions, and how different coaches use different players contribute to the strategy and fun of basketball games.

Best Detroit Pistons Ever

July 26th, 2010

The Detroit Pistons have to considered among the greatest franchises in the history of the NBA. The Pistons teams of the ’80s, nicknamed the “Bad Boys”, won back to back championships in 1989 and 1990 against the Lakers and Trailblazers. The Pistons became great again in the 2000s, going to 6 straight Eastern Conference Final and winning the NBA title in 2004. Among the greatest Detroit Pistons ever are Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dave Bing, Chauncey Billups, and Ben Wallace.

People Are Mad For The Basketball NCAA Tournament

May 15th, 2010

Every March, we always hear about the basketball NCAA tournament, all of the 64 teams that are involved, which team has the best shot at winning it all, who some of the dark horses are, and so forth. There is a reason it is called March Madness.

I’ve often wondered why there is so much hoopla around the basketball NCAA tournament and not as much around other sports, such as baseball and hockey. The tournaments in those sports certainly have large and loyal followings, but not nearly to the degree that basketball does.

There is definitely something to be said for the fact that basketball is the most-played sport in the United States. It makes sense when you think about how little it takes to get a basketball game going compared to other sports.

I think part of the appeal of the basketball NCAA tournament is the fact that it lasts for so long as well. In sports like hockey and baseball, the tournament does not carry on the way the basketball tournament does, and you don’t get to see as many games.

Another aspect of the basketball NCAA tournament that makes it intriguing to a lot of sports fans is that there is always the chance that the underdog will surpass everybody’s expectations. It seems that every year, there is a Gonzaga, George Mason or some other team that nobody thought would get past the first or second round, but makes it to the final eight or four.

I also think that the names they have for the different rounds, like the Sweet 16, the Elite Eight and the Final Four, are catchy, and in terms of sports terminology, they have become household expressions for most basketball fans.

The thing that I hear the most about college basketball fans, however, is that basketball at that level is still fun to watch. The players at the college level are still willing to learn and grow, and most of them are unselfish and play a team game.

These players have not become self-absorbed millionaires who care more about their image than their teams’ record. Now, I’m not saying that all players in the NBA are that way, but the young men and women that play college basketball play because they love the game.

The basketball NCAA tournament boasts the best of the best in the country when it comes to the sport of college basketball, so naturally it is going to draw a massive following.

I have to admit that I am not the biggest basketball fan in the world. As a matter of fact, out of the four major sports, it is probably my least favorite. I do know, however, that when it comes time for the basketball NCAA tournament, televisions at my friends and family member’s houses will be on virtually non-stop, and mine might come on every once in a while, too.

Lakers News: A Second Straight Championship

April 16th, 2010

After the playoffs are over, the L.A. Lakers news headline that most fans would like to see would read: “Lakers: Second Championship Locked Up!

Deep into February the Lakers are trading back and forth with the Cleveland Cavaliers for best record in the entire league. Since the Lakers play in the West with a much tougher schedule against better teams, the comparison between the Cavs and Lakers is not really fair.

Although the Cavaliers, led by their fantastic forward LeBron James, are a quality team, they just don’t match up with the much deeper Laker squad. Some will argue that the Cavaliers have won twice against the Lakers in head to head play this season and this puts them, if not equal to, at least in the same basic league with the current world champions. Those knuckleheads would be wrong.

LeBron is certainly playing at another MVP clip and should win his second straight award when the season ends. Kobe has been playing with a broken finger and his shooting percentage has suffered, along with his minutes and subsequent point totals. Two weeks ago he was sidelined with an aggravated ankle injury, just days after making all-time Lakers news by becoming the leading scorer in Lakers history, passing his idol and the man who originally recruited him for the Lakers, Hall of Famer Jerry West.

Most NBA pundits agree that the Lakers are by far the best team this season and are the odds on favorites to win the trophy once again. They all agree that L.A. is super deep and has the size, speed, and skill to power them through the playoffs. The division final in the West will probably be against Denver or San Antonio, and neither team can match up to the Lakers. It would be major Lakers news if any of those teams can win even two games in any one series against the defending champs.

With All-Star Spanish forward Pau Gasol and emerging superstar center Andrew Bynum guarding the middle and paving the way for Kobe, the Lakers look unstoppable. Once Kobe gets healthy again, the Lakers will roll over all other teams in their way. Lamar Odom is playing great, Ron Artest continues his smothering defense, and Farmar off the bench for Fisher has been hitting the big threes and running the floor. What a team!

There is no convincing scenario where Cleveland can beat the Lakers in the Finals. Experts around the league are not even sure now that Cleveland will even get into the Finals. After going on a fourteen game winning streak, they recently lost three straight to tough teams like Denver and Orlando.

The big Lakers news is that they are on a mission: win a second straight world championship. Nothing else will suffice. Who knows, next season they could be going for one more three-peat.

Gonzaga basketball: The perpetual cinderella

March 28th, 2010

The history of the gonzaga basketball goes back many decades, but for most people – even avid fans – they were a total unknown until the 1999 NCAA Tournament. In that particular competition they captivated the country, making it all the way to the Elite Eight and then giving eventual national champions the University of Connecticut all they could handle before succumbing in the last several minutes. But even in defeat the gonzaga basketball team put themselves on the map, and now, more than a decade later, they are still in the top twenty five, a yearly force to be reckoned with.

The history of gonzaga basketball is long and storied. They first played competitively over 100 years ago, back in 1908. They went through fourteen different coaches in their first twenty five yeras, and none of those coaches won even fifty games. The first gonzaga basketball to make a lasting impression was Claude McGrath, who took over in 1933 and remained as head coach until 1942. He returned after World War II, coaching the Zags (or the Bulldogs, which is their official nickname) until 1949, and became the first gonzaga basketball head coach to win at least 100 games.

Their next successful coach was Hank Anderson, who compiled 290 wins from 1951 until 1972. After a six year interim, they found another top coach in Dan Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, like McGrath, coached the Zags two different times. His first stint was from 1978 til 1981, and his second was from 1985 until 1997. McGrath is considered the godfather of gonzaga basketball, and was the first coach to lead the Zags to the NCAA tournament. They earned a 14 seed in the 1995 tourney and were defeated by the University of Maryland of the high powered Atlantic Coast Conference.

Ironically, gonzaga basketball best known product, hall of famer John Stockton, played for the Zags in the four year period between Fitzgerald’s two tenures. Stockton is still the best and most famous player to have ever suited up for the gonzaga basketball team, and is widely regarded as one of the five best point guards ever to have played the game.

When Fitzgerald retired in 1997 to become Athletic Director, he hired protege Dan Monson to take over the gonzaga basketball team. Monson paid off on that trust with the 1999 Elite Eight run, but then he himself left to become head coach at the University of Minnesota.

Monson was replaced by assistant coach Mark Few, and Few is still the head man at Gonzaga today. He’s on pace to win 300 games as early as 2011, and will take over from Anderson as the all-time winningest gonzaga basketball coach just before then.

Try asics gel running shoe

November 29th, 2009

Some of my other favorite simple shoes are New Balance. You see, I have unusually wide feet, and I used to have a lot of trouble finding shoes that would fit me. New Balance tennis shoes or asics gel running shoe, however, have always fit me just right. They aren’t as flashy as Nike’s and Reebok’s, and don’t contain a lot of unnecessary lines are extra details. They are also extremely comfortable, and reasonably priced. All in all, they are a good shoe for your money.

The Trials and Tribulations of Coaching Sports

May 2nd, 2009

Coaching sports can be both challenging and rewarding.

It’s challenging because you have deal with different personalities and temperaments. You have to know what to say and when to say it… For example;

Some athletes have to be cuddled, while others have to be disciplined. Psychology plays a major role if you want to have a successful coaching career.

Another major challenge when it comes to coaching sports is trying to get the athletes to listen to your message. You always here about coaches failing because after a certain point the player’s on the team start to “tune them out”.

But, when it’s all said and done, the coach’s who are most successful are the ones who as they say “have a passion for the game”

NFL Sunday Ticket

September 9th, 2008

My dad is a sports nut. So, for his birthday, my mom decided that we should all pitch in and get him better sports programming. I did a quick google search for direct tv special offers and found a great article entitled, “NFL Sunday Ticket.” The article explained NFL Sunday Ticket, a Direct TV special now running for sports fans. My dad can watch a ton of games and, for the first few months, all of the rest of the channels we have for Direct TV are free. It sounded perfect. I called my mom, and we purchased it. I’ve never had to pay monthly for a birthday present before, but this one is worth it.

Sports Memorabilia

April 24th, 2008

People place a lot of importance on sports memorabilia history, because it is that history that helps them support their families. Sports memorabilia retailers learn a lot about the sports that surround their business, and know truly collectible items are genuine when they see the various holograms attached to the sporting products that they have in their sports memorabilia collectibles inventories. Other people prefer to reflect back on the sports memorabilia history by viewing historic football games that were captured on video tape. These tapes explore all of the mythical history that surrounds football clubs, and tell about the rich history of any football franchise.

Electronic Arts

April 23rd, 2008

When Electronic Arts set the bar fairly high with the release of Madden 2008, they knew they had to raise it even higher in NBA Live 2008. The game is slated to be on all the major consoles such as the Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and the Nintendo Wii. This year’s iteration seems to hearken back to the fundamentals of basketball. One new feature in the video game is an online tournament mode. This will be a 32 team tournament style playoff that plays similar to fantasy football.

Februrary Iowa vacations involve basketball

February 25th, 2008

This is the best time of the year to take one of the Iowa vacations for the basketball lover. This week the girls state tournament starts and there is a flurry of activity around the capital city as teams from all over the state arrive to show their prowess on the court. This year all but three teams are coming from north of I80, the interstate that divides the state in half from north to south. These tournaments are held for different classes so all sizes of schools are represented, so that isn’t a factor. The tournaments are being held a few weeks early this year as the arena has other events scheduled in the normal time slot for basketball. This didn’t allow for as many games as are usually played. Next week the boys start their tournament and some schools that have both a girls and a boys team going to state are really appreciative of the nice weather. There is a legend around the state that there is always a blizzard during the girls tourney. Mother nature seems to have taken the earlier schedule into account as there is a big storm scheduled to hit at six o’clock tonight.

Basketball System

February 21st, 2008

We just got it today! Our new basketball system. Before this very moment, we were playing on a ratty old hoop without even a net. It was angled downward, and the backboard was loose, so that you couldn’t even get a decent shot. To beat that, the hoop was too high. But this new one is awesome. It is called the pro shot dominator, and has everything to make an awesome game. It is mounted in the ground, not hanging on some ratty pole filled with concrete like the last one, and up to industry standards. You could even dunk on this – no problem. I love basketball, but before now, I couldn’t play at home.
