Batting Helmets for baseball & softball batting helmets. A grandparent’s odyssey into youth sports.

Every summer our grandchildren go to vacation with the old timers. It is just a very pleasing period of time for my family. Our 13 year old grand son plays baseball and our eight year old granddaughter is beginning to participate in softball. We love visiting the playing diamonds and watching the children play. We seek to help our single parent daughter out by way of obtaining the grandchildren’s softball or baseball equipment for him or her. This year the emphasis was basically about softball sports equipment due to the fact our softball granddaughter was only starting.

We had some softball and baseball gear already. Over time we have bought our fair share of baseball and softball bats. Grandma and I often like to get the grand son a brand new baseball bat each year. That way our grandson can take the old bats back home and practice there. He has also cracked or misplaced his fair share of baseball helmets. I’m not sure just what he does to or with these hitting helmets, I’m scared to enquire.

This year both of them new protective helmets for baseball. and softball. We hoped both helmets will last for the year. In terms of baseball & softball bats, we had to get a variety. Our granddaughter required one of an alternative measurement then her sibling. Judy thought she really needed a softball bat specifically constructed for the sport. When I attempted to spell out to her that baseball & softball bats are identical, she replied no. She’s convinced that softball bats are different. My daughter and granddaughter believe just about all softball sports equipment is completely different from baseball equipment also. I needed to depend on my grand son to help me get my item across about softball sports equipment. I believe the two of us are incorrect regarding learner baseball and softball bats. I subsequently found out that only bats for older age groups differ significantly.

So my wife and I searched for all kinds of competitive softball gear. 1st we got the softball bats. After that we got softball batting helmet. It was very important to pick softball batting helmets which fit correctly. Our grand son is actually a a lefty batter and so his helmets for baseball have the right ear flap. Often he plays catcher so he also bought the 2 earflap catcher’s helmet. Our granddaughter hits right handed so her softball batting helmets have the left earflap. Obviously she looks up to her big brother so she wanted to play softball catcher. Our daughter had already warned us. She had to have a catchers helmet too.

The way it turned out our granddaughter really preferred being catcher. Not only did we buy her the catchers helmet, we chose to get all her softball protective gear too. Not counting the softball catchers helmet, softball protective gear consists of a mask, catchers mitt, shin guards and chest protection. I thought her softball catcher’s equipment was going to end up extremely expensive, but the supplemental items were not much more than the catchers mitt. In the end we didn’t break the bank this summer. Even with the brand new baseball softball bats, the new helmets for baseball, the brand new fastpitch softball batting helmets plus the catchers helmets for each grandchild, we stayed in our spending budget. We at the same time were able to sell off some of our grandson’s older batting helmets for baseball and their used baseball & softball bats. Which helped.

It is enjoyable for older grandparents like us to participate in our grandchildren’s athletics. I feel it has really helped us be closer for many years. We look forward to their visits as well as the enjoyable time all of us put in together out there on the diamonds. I am so glad our granddaughter enjoyed her 1st year of softball.
