Women’s Hiking Shoes

January 31st, 2011

There is not much point in looking for and comparing women’s hiking shoes when you do not know the features women’s hiking shoes can have and understand how they work. In this article, we will show you some of the most important and common characteristics of women’s hiking shoes, as well as the all important boot anatomy and parts.

Women’s Hiking Shoes Weight

It has always been a general rule in hiking to go light. And while your backpack accounts for most of the weight you’ll be carrying on the trail, your hiking boots also add some considerable weight to your legs. That’s why you need women’s hiking boots that are light weight. The lighter the weight of your women’s hiking shoes is, the easier your walking will be.

Find out about women’s shoes online at our blog

A common understanding is that, one pound extra footwear weight can be compared to five pounds of added backpack weight. So if your women’s hiking shoes are heavy, then chances are your hike is going to take longer and so much more strenuous. To answer for this problem in women’s hiking shoes weight, manufacturers are constantly coming up with lighter women’s hiking shoes while maintaining the support and other features needed.

Water Resistance

Next to weight in importance is the water resistant capability of your women’s hiking shoes. When it comes to hiking, one of your biggest enemies is moisture or water. Moisture causes blisters, and several other nasty effects. In order to improve the chances of keeping your feet dry, there are a couple of things your women’s hiking shoes should have.

The first thing you should look for in your women’s hiking shoes is breathable material. It must be breathable so in case the women’s hiking shoes get wet, the drying period is only short. Next is watertight material. Both of these aspects of your women’s hiking shoes will allow moisture to leave the inner parts of your boots but will not let water enter, thus providing you dual protection both from the outside and from the inside.

Lateral Rigidity

A good pair of women’s hiking shoes is one that can support your feet and ankles from twisting on uneven surfaces. Look for women’s hiking shoes that have a higher upper as these usually have stiff ankle supports. These extra supports for your ankle provide a big part of the lateral rigidity of your women’s hiking shoes.

Longitudinal Rigidity

A good pair of women’s hiking shoes should be able to provide support not just for the ankles but for your feet in general. Specifically, your women’s hiking shoes should be able to support your feet from over-bending when placing too much weight on the toe or heel side of your foot. At the same time, your women’s hiking shoes should have enough longitudinal flexibility to support eh arches’ natural spring action.

Arch Support

Besides supporting your ankles from twisting and your feet from over-bending, your women’s hiking shoes should support the arch of your feet as well. This way, your feet will not flatten out under heavy pressure. A curved shank between the midsole and insole of your women’s hiking shoes is often inserted to provide arch support.

Ancient Chinese Martial Arts and Kung Fu Panda?

January 20th, 2011

You might think they are just characters in the animated movie, Kung Fu Panda, but Snake, Crane, and Tiger are 3 of the 5 Animals of Kung Fu. The other two being Leopard and Dragon. Sorry, as much as I like Jack Black, but Panda fist form did not make the list.

The 5 animal styles of Kung Fu are very popular, and seriously deadly. Those who study powerful ancient Chinese martial arts and other martial arts styles, know any of these five forms are very deadly and make one more than capable of defending themselves against anything that comes their way.

There are many martial arts that claim to be able to kill with a touch, and their secrets are sought after all over the world. Although it can be interesting to research and study these traditions, it is important to keep in mind that the goal of modern martial arts students should not be to kill an enemy, but to effectively incapacitate him without causing overwhelming damage.

Although many people think of martial arts as being just for self defense purposes, this isn’t always the case. Martial arts are used in tournaments and competitions as well, which can include sparring, floor routines, and even block and brick breaking demonstrations.

The ancient Chinese martial arts evolved in a much more lawless world where personal self-defense counted for a lot. These days, you rarely have to kill or be killed. All across the world, there are competitions and chances for fighters to prove themselves and their knowledge without having to seriously injury anyone, even though with techniques like the 5 animals they more than likely could.

David Meltzer Sports 1 Marketing CEO

January 20th, 2011

Great to see that david meltzer sports 1 marketing has taken the helm at Sports 1 Marketing. He was with Leigh Steinberg prior to that and should be able to make a great name for the company. I’ve been impressed with this industry and the strides that it is making. Here’s hoping that the sports marketing world really moves forward in positive ways.

There are many sports marketing companies that do a great job talking about making things happen, but the duo of Warren Moon and David Meltzer should be pretty dynamic and powerful. One of the first few things that they will likely do is bring on some great interns to help manage the business. Next, go after all of the relationships that both Warren and Dave have in the business. I’m looking forward to it.

Some types of back pain respond well to exercise and physical therapy, and other types of back pain are just made worse because certain motions, making the initial problem worse rather than better. Use caution and always talk things over with your doctor before you start a new exercise program when you have lower back pain problems complicating your life.

Types of Rebound Exercises

Exercise for lower back pain can be as simple as going for a walk each day. Inactivity is the worst enemy of back pain, so make sure you do not lay around for any longer than you absolutely have to. If you can move, get up and do it, even if it is only a short walk around your block or just around the house. If you lay around for too long with lower back pain, the muscles will weaken even more and you will be in even worse pain. A day of two of rest is best, but start moving as soon as you can to feel better much more quickly.

If your lower back pain is just from sprain, you have more options when choosing exercise for lower back pain. For muscles that have spasmed, they can be rebuilt with exercise after you have taken a muscle relaxer prescribed by your doctor to loosen them up. Get moving soon, and then build on what you can do. You don’t want to overdo it, but you can do some motions that will help keep the muscles loosened up and that will allow you to do more exercises to build those back muscles back up.

Those that have lower back pain due to a ruptured disk have less options for exercise. Some can not do any at all, which is a problem. Those are usually the ones that need surgery as soon as possible. Some ruptured disks do not hurt, and a strong back is a good way to make sure that the spine stays in line and that there are no further problems. Exercise for lower back pain when a disk involved should be discussed with a doctor. They can tell you what you should and should not do.

The Science Behind Rebound Exercise

If you are not sure what is causing your pain just yet, use a modified program for exercise for lower back pain. Twisting from side to side can irritate an already aching back, so stick with exercise that does not require extreme torso motions to either side. If you can comfortably run, that should be okay, and walking can be done if running makes back pain worse. Find and use exercises that are designed to help build and protect the back, and talk to your doctor about any sudden or worsening pain that you may experience while you are exercising with back pain.

Golf Training Videos

January 10th, 2011

Golf Training Videos can really help you get your game on track, especially if you don’t want to get lots of lessons from the club pro. Often, as a beginner, we get a few lessons to get us started in the right direction but find that it can become very costly. However, it is better to eradicate all “bad hitting habits” early on.

The great thing about getting a Golf Training Video is that you can watch it over and over, practice and practice until you master it. This is difficult when getting lessons from a pro – it would cost you a fortune! However, after you think you have improved and mastered the steps in the video instruction, then it is a good idea to go back to your coach and let them evaluate how your progress is going.

Team Work - Baseball or Paintball - It's All The Same
Several years ago, I was fortunate enough to have worked with a manager who believed that sports and competition teamwork would have a positive impact on employee's compatibility and productivity in the work place. Baseball, being universally liked by most all employees at our store at this time along with my manager being a part time umpire for his son's school baseball team made the choice easy. Like work, this was going to take training and practice along with some determination.
