How to get the most out of your running shoes

April 29th, 2010

It seems like these days everyone is on a fitness kick. This is no surprise given all of the news reports about obesity, high blood pressure, and our general lack of fitness. Running is one type of exercise that many people take up in order to stave off those extra kilos, or to get rid of them once and for all. Running and jogging are sports that most people can do, given enough time. They are easy to do in different types of weather, and they don’t require expensive equipment. Let’s face it, running is certainly cheaper than buying a gym membership or going rock climbing! Really, the only type of equipment you’ll need for your new running hobby is jogging shoes.

Running shoes are a special type of sports shoe that are calibrated for running. There are other types of sports shoes, such as basketball shoes, walking shoes, and cross trainers. These are designed for different types of sporting activities. Jogging shoes are the best type of shoes for people who like to run and jog. They offer good support for your feet, and will protect you against injuries such as back pain, or sore knees or hips. For this reason, it is essential to buy a good pair of jogging shoes.

Running and jogging shoes can vary significantly in price. You probably don’t need to buy a top of the range pair unless you are a serious athlete or have money to burn. However, you don’t want to simply pick up the cheapest pair of shoes that you can find, either. Bear in mind that your runners are all that is protecting your feet from the jarring force of the pavement. A cheap pair of shoes may seem like a good idea in the short term, but they can cost you dearly if you end up injuring yourself because you didn’t buy a proper pair of shoes. Try checking with the shop assistant in your local sports specialty store to see what they recommend. Be realistic about your budget and about your running habits.

It’s essential that you get properly fitted for your runners. This is because not everyone’s feet are the same. In addition, people have different running styles and ways of placing their feet. This means that certain shoes are unsuitable for certain people. You want to ensure that you get a pair of shoes that is properly fitted to your feet and your running style. For example, if your feet roll out when you run, you’ll need a pair of shoes that corrects for this. This will stop you from doing damage to your joints and muscles in the long run.

Always make sure that you replace your jogging shoes regularly. Once a year is usually frequently enough for most people. However, if you run very often, or for long periods, you may need to replace your shoes more often. If you find that your jogging shoes’ soles are wearing thin, or that your joints are hurting after a run, it’s probably time to invest in a new pair of shoes.

What Type of Motorcycle Race Leathers Are Truly Unique?

April 28th, 2010

Motorcycle Racing Leathers in the traditional sense; have been different from regular motorcycle leathers. Racing leathers are often 1 Piece or 2 Piece Motorcycle Race Leathers and are constructed of materials that are designed for abrasion and shock (hence CE Armor and Kevlar panels). The entire point of racing leathers is to protect the rider from in the event of a fall, which happens all the time during a race. However, with the onset of track days, more regular street riders and learning that track days can enable them to improve their riding skills. One of the requirements to track days is to own a one piece motorcycle race suit or 2 piece track day leather suit.

An important attribute to look for in Motorcycle Race Leathers is the grade of leather – full grain is the best leather you can buy as it offers superior protection. In addition, most well designed motorcycle race leathers come with Kevlar now. Kevlar is basically an extremely strong and durable synthetic fiber that is used to minimize heat transfer and abrasion. Well constructed motorcycle race leathers have Kevlar in arms and in the crotch to aid in stretch and maneuverability. If a jacket or suit doesn’t have Kevlar, then keep looking! It’s a worthwhile material to have and you’ll be glad you found a jacket or racing leather that offers it as a safety feature.

A good design is essential and quality craftsmanship is an investment; do not look at it as “expensive”, you get what you pay for so do your homework and buy the best set of motorcycle race leathers possible. Thick leather is not always an indicator of quality; you must ask the sales person what type of grain the leather is, either full grain or top grain – there is a difference. When it comes to zipper, look for the YKK brand as they are industry leader and for a good reason – reliability. Seam construction is also a strong indicator of a quality race suit, look carefully at the impact points to see if they are double or triple stitched. Believe it or not, seam technology has come a long way and you want to make sure the race leathers you are purchasing has a minimum of double stitching.

In your search for quality One Piece Motorcycle Leathers, do your homework and some comparison shopping. You’ll find more options for quality motorcycle race leathers online than you will at a traditional retail store, such as your local dealer. You’ll find the typical brands on line as well, sometimes they can be expensive because of the cost to sponsor top racers can be quite high. To get around the cost of overly priced leathers, look for companies who are manufacturer direct; this means they do not have a middle man and their cost will be much less to the bigger brands and also features that are apple to apple or even better. Once such company who is known for their quality and craftsmanship” is Komodo Gear, who is also recognized as a top player in the world of high quality motorcycle race leathers.
After you find the set of racing leathers you want, look for motorcycle video testimonies from real customers or search out articles that discuss their fit and crash worthiness. If a customer is willing to share their experience on video, then chances are very high you’re getting the truth.

A great resource for motorcycle race leathers and sport bike gear can be found at www.komodogear.com where you’ll find real video testimonies from real customers and also relevant newsletters on the latest races and events.

Football weight training for those who haven’t made the team yet

April 27th, 2010

If you’re an aspiring footballer, still young and growing, and you love those linemen positions, guard, tackle, center, end, and the personal challenge of holding a a piece of ground or crashing through a mass of meaty, growling guys intent on stopping you in your tracks, but you just don’t have the weight and strength to compete at this point on a junior varsity or varsity team, there’s still hope. If you’re fast, have endurance and stamina, not much at catching a football, but you can run into a wall of guys crouched to catch and throw you on the ground, you’re probably the right man to play fullback, but if you’re thin and not at your peak strength, you’ll need to put on weight, not fat, but thick, firm muscle. If you’re one of these guys, what you need is a regimen of football weight training.

Performing the proper weight training can increase both muscle bulk and muscle strength, fairly quickly and, if you do it regularly, to lasting affect. Football weight training is generally part of your daily football practice if you’re already on a team, but here we’re talking to those boys who haven’t made it on the team yet and want to know what they can do to get on one when tryouts come up in the Fall. You’ve got more than enough time to put on that weight and increase your strength if you start a football weight training program now. Even if you wait until the summer, three months will be enough time to build up your muscles and strength in time for tryouts in September. Less than three months will not do.

Your objectives in football weight training are quiet clear. You’re after strength and bulk, not definition. That means lifting increasingly heavier weights. If you work with light weights only, you’ll get some bulk, not much, but your muscles will become clearly defined. That’s nice for the beach, but not for the football field. Here’s what you need to do. Start the first week lifting as many pounds as you can, doing a repetition of ten lifts. You have to get the repetitions in, so don’t lift too much so that you tire before the ten. Do bench presses, squats (using heavier weights than for arm, chest, and shoulder development, since your legs are always stronger than the rest), tip-toe lifts for the calves, and side lifts. Do your curls with the same amount of weight you do your over-head lifts and front, crouch to chest, lifts. You can do bench presses with weight heavier than you use for arm work. The next week, add two to two and a half pounds more. The third week, add another two pounds, and on the fourth week, don’t add any new weight. Then, on the first week of the second month of your football weight training program, add two and a half pounds again and work with that for the rest of the week. Do exactly what you did the previous month, increasing weight each week. At some point, you’re going to find that you’re not able to make it through all the repetitions. That’s when you stop adding weight. Continue to work with the same weight until the repetitions become easier. Then start adding weights again.

Football weight training can be very grueling work. You’re breaking down muscle so that it will heal and become stronger. You’re going to hurt. Take steam baths, get massages, and be certain not to strain yourself to the point you cannot continue your training. Keep working at it, and when the Fall comes, you’ll be sporting some tough, fleshy muscle that will be sure to put you on the starting line-up and on your way to football glory. Remember, it doesn’t work until it hurts, but also, don’t strain yourself.

Weight Loss Vs Muscle

April 26th, 2010

Muscle and liver storage of glycogen (carbohydrate) and water can affect body weight without effecting xtreme fat loss levels.

Following a bout of resistance training, and assuming adequate nutrition has been consumed with sufficient amounts of carbohydrate, the muscle and liver glycogen (carbohydrate) stores are filled to capacity. And for every 1 gram of glycogen stored, 3-4 grams of water is also stored.

(This is why muscles appear to be bigger and fuller the day after a weights session. The muscle hasn’t dramatically grown overnight; it’s just full of glycogen and water)

Komodo Gear Track Day CMRA- Not Just Another Motorcycle Apparel Store

April 23rd, 2010

WFO!!! Komodo Gear attended the latest CMRA (Central Motorcycle Racing Association) event at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas.  The GSXR 1000 was ready for battle as it was prepped for the 6 hour endurance race in A Superstock.  Weather conditions for the race were acceptable as it had been raining hard during the week, but the track was in good condition.  Riding this race would be split amongst Danny, Otter and Wayne.  Since Eagles Canyon was such a disaster, the bike was carefully gone through prior to the race and we put Danny on first in practice.  Danny was on the track early and was running some good lap times.  After 7 laps Danny pulled in and jumped off the bike to inform us of the needed changes on setup.  He noticed the clutch needed adjustment and the forks seemed a little stiff, especially going into Turn 1.  The Michelin’s were looking really good and went up to temperature quickly giving Danny plenty of confidence early into practice.  So far, all the feedback that Danny was sharing was good information.  Upon making changes to the bike, it was noticed that the belly pan was full of water!  Wayne pointed this out and immediately Otter knew we had a problem.  We couldn’t understand it, the bike had been gone through and out of nowhere we have a leak coming from the radiator.  This isn’t a deal breaker, but definitely a set-back for the team as the race was less than an hour away.  The crew (Joel, Mikey, Terry and Joey) got the bike back into the pits and stripped the bike of the body work.  Quickly they were able to locate the area on the radiator for the leak; it was a small crack on the upper left side.  When the bike was idling and revved up, everything looked normal.  It would only “leak” when the bike was under load and building real pressure for cooling.  Quickly, we located some JB weld and while it was being applied on the radiator, we were also trying to find a spare that would work in its place “just in case”.  45 minutes after the repair WFO!!! Komodo had the bike back together; the JB Weld was holding nice so we took the bike back out and ran it up to temperature.  Sure enough, the leak was still there.  The repair to the radiator was correct, but not sufficient to keep the bike out of trouble.  It was a real disappointment as we had a good crew for the race who traveled many hours to support us.  To add insult to injury, it was our second race in a row that we were not able to finish and that meant our points were still a big “ZERO”.  The pressure is definitely on as WFO!!! Komodo needs a podium finish at Hallett to be competitive or the race team itself is in jeopardy for the 2009 season.  With strong and proven riders on the team this year, WFO!!! Komodo is well positioned for podium success.  However, these first two races have truly put the team into an uncomfortable and awkward position.   Hallett will be a real test for the team. Check out the track days in your local area.

Learning to Snowboard Well

April 20th, 2010

A decent certified instructor has a lot of advantages. Not only will he help you to learn to snowboard well, but he will be able to help you with intangibles as well. For example, he can give you tips on how to go about selecting the right snowboard for yourself, how to determine the best types of snow to snowboard in, as well as giving you advice on the best types of clothing to wear.

The advantage in learning the basics first and learning good snowboarding habits from the outset, is that there are less bad habits to unlearn as you progress in the sport. For example, one good habit to get into is to strap into the front snowboard binding first. You need your back foot free for skating to and from the chair lift. In addition, get into the habit of removing the loose snow from the binding. These, as well as similar small tips like this are the things that a good snowboard instructor will teach you.

Vintage baseball gloves and other baseball collectibles

April 18th, 2010

Are Baseball Collectibles Still Worth Collecting?

I was rummaging through one of my closets the other day when I happened upon one of the most fond memories from my childhood – my baseball card collection. In it, I have hundreds of valuable cards and other great baseball collectibles that I spent years researching, collecting and safely storing so that one day, I would have a veritable gold mine of my own. I also have some classic autographed baseball gloves that I’ve collected over the years

I remember scouring the old Beckett Magazine price guides and seeing such players as Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and, of course, probably the most coveted of all baseball collectibles. One of the rarest commodities of all is the famous Honus Wagner rookie card, valued at $100,000 in the late 1980s.

I would often brag to my parents about how one day, I would be able to sell my baseball cards and other collectibles and retire off of the profits. Naturally, when I found my old card collection that afternoon, I expected a joyful trip down memory lane and the opportunity to see how much my original investment had paid off so far.

I have to say, however, that I was pretty disappointed.

It was not disappointing that I lacked any baseball collectibles of players who were considered the absolute elite of their generation, but rather that so many of them were linked to the infamous Mitchell Report, which tied hundreds of players to steroid abuse. I sifted through card after card, and probably six out of every 10 were suspected of using or had admitted to using performance-enhancing substances.

I still had several great players who played the game clean, guys like Nolan Ryan, George Brett, Tony Gwynn and Mike Schmidt, but the once-comforting thought that I had in my possession a gold mine of baseball collectibles had all but evaporated.

I think the worst part about it is that baseball is the national pastime. It is something that fathers and sons have shared for generations, and as one man tells his son about the great players of his time, the son, whether consciously or not, starts to make his own list of players that he thinks are the greatest he has ever seen.

I know that in the very near future, I will start to take my own son to baseball games, he will bring his baseball mitt and I’ll begin teaching him about the sport that is so near and dear to my own heart. He will probably start looking for baseball collectibles of his own that he thinks will be worth a lot of money some day.

I am very pleased to see that Major League Baseball has taken steps to cut down on steroid abuse in baseball, and my hope is that my son grows up admiring players who are steroid-free.

As for whether or not baseball collectibles are still worth collecting, I think the answer is still a resounding “yes,” but collectors should be aware that what once seemed like a sure thing to appreciate in value over time may one day prove otherwise.

Quality helmets & protective gear key to reducing head injuries

April 18th, 2010

A Study Shows that Sports Head Injuries are more Common than you would Think. While this article talks generally about football injuries softball and baseball injuries are also on the rise. Quality helmets and softball protective gear are important pieces of sports equipment. Face guards, mouthpieces and other softball and baseball protection will reduce the risk of sports injury.

There is that scene in that old movie Jerry Maguire where Cuba Gooding Jr. gets knocked out cold during a particularly aggressive professional football maneuver in the arena, and everyone goes through some breathless minutes seeing if he will move again. This year’s Super Bowl just went by, and professional football events will happen around the year; but about the last thing that anyone seems to think about in the same context as the Super Bowl, is how much of a possibility it is in professional football that an athlete will suffer a sports head injury. Well, someone’s paying attention. The American Medical Association’s professional magazine put out a report nearly a century ago that claimed that even a single football style blow to the head, through a helmet can cause what they call concussion hemorrhages. That was written a century ago, and only now have there been Congressional hearings into what happens long-term athletes, professional or amateur, who get head butted and the like.

And apparently there is a lot that happens. Athletes end up with uncontrollable anger problems, with walking in an uncoordinated fashion, and with finding it hard to do elementary reasoning. In fact, the all-macho NFL is issuing new rules this coming season to make sure that players who have had sports head injuries before, don’t come back to tempt fate again. They certainly take the “better late than never” adage seriously at the NFL, don’t they? They certainly hate to do this; they only announced this two months ago, and already their brain injury specialist, is taking it back and telling Congress that the evidence is nothing more than anecdotal.

But why go on research done by the medical association nearly a century ago? Apparently, the kind of research they did on damaged brains back then was so thorough, so complete, that there was no was no need ever to question what they did. The research took in 300 athletes, from boxing and football, who had died of sports head injuries. They also looked at a couple of dozen retired boxers whom anybody would call punchdrunk. They did not walk properly, they did not talk properly, and they certainly did not think properly. It looks like they were coming down with Alzheimer’s. A couple were even blind, nearly. Why, we do know what happened to Mohammed Ali, don’t we? Apparently, what happened to him was no exceptional affliction.

When a person takes a hit to the head, the brain knocks against the skull with ample force. The rubbery organ sometimes leaves a little too, and scars over. That kind of scar, gives you Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. In fact, NFL players more often than not, die before they hit 50. When they autopsied these four players, they found dark scar tissue in their brains, similar to what they see in Alzheimer’s patients. No one can be jolted into action the way those autopsy doctors can, actually seeing the damage with their own eyes. Sports head injuries are about real people, dying pathetically an undignified way. In a few years, all contact sports could carry a federal warning.

This is critical in softball for your youth ballplayer. Wear good fitting protective equipment and make sure the helmets are highly safety rated. Get your sporting equipment and protecting gear from reputable online vendors.

Get a Total Body Workout in Just 45 Minutes

April 18th, 2010

If you want to look like a Hollywood star you need to get a personal trainer and spend a couple of hours or more in the gym at least five times per week. You will also need to hire your own personal diet chef who will cook three low-calorie meals a day for you. If you are not rich there is still hope with the following total body workout.

Finding the time in our modern day hectic schedules for a total body workout seems impossible. That is why I recommend the following regimen where you can get a total body workout in just 45 minutes a day, four days a week (if possible).

The secret to burning fat and building lean muscle is to surprise the muscle itself. If you do the same exercise routine all the time then you are probably not getting the results you are looking for. If you really want to look your best and don’t have a lot of time or money, you need to check out the following five steps:

1. If you go to a typical gym that has lots of machines in it, then head to the nearest chest press machine and do three sets of 15 reps at low weight. Low weight for men is different than for women so just test it until you get it right. You need to feel the burn. Take very little time between sets. Go quickly to another machine, this time for abs and do 3 sets of 15 again at low weight. Again spend as little time as possible recovering. Don’t talk to friends or other people working out as that is just a waste of time. Do another set of curls on the curls machine. One more machine should do it and your 45 minutes are up. If you are not sweating then you took too long between sets.

2. Take one day off. The day after that you don’t go to the gym but instead find a steep hill to walk or hike. Hike up and down the hill hard and fast (you can run if you are able) for 45 minutes. By the end of the total body workout hike you should be sweating. The next day you should feel it in your calves.

3. Next day you do not take off. Instead you go back to the gym. Instead of doing the machines this time you will go straight to the dumbbell area. Take a low weight dumbbell in each hand and do curls while standing. Then sit on a bench with a back support and do military press. Again, very little recovery time, high reps and low weight give you the best total body workout in the quickest time. Sit at the bench and lay down with the dumbbells in either hand and do chest flys. This is where you extend the arms out and raise them up while lying on the bench with your back flat.

4. Next day you relax. After that you go back to step number 1 above. You can mix up the machines if you feel that you are not getting results. The trick is to fool your muscle memory and break down muscle tissue. This will result in a total body workout.

5 No total body workout would be complete without some diet advice. If you really want your body to respond as efficiently as possible to the total body workout then you have to change your eating habits. Two easy quick tips are: cut out oil, butter, and sugar, and have six small meals (one third the size of a normal meal) spread out throughout the day but nothing but water after 6 p.m.

Follow these steps for three weeks straight and you will see dramatic results.

Lakers News: A Second Straight Championship

April 16th, 2010

After the playoffs are over, the L.A. Lakers news headline that most fans would like to see would read: “Lakers: Second Championship Locked Up!

Deep into February the Lakers are trading back and forth with the Cleveland Cavaliers for best record in the entire league. Since the Lakers play in the West with a much tougher schedule against better teams, the comparison between the Cavs and Lakers is not really fair.

Although the Cavaliers, led by their fantastic forward LeBron James, are a quality team, they just don’t match up with the much deeper Laker squad. Some will argue that the Cavaliers have won twice against the Lakers in head to head play this season and this puts them, if not equal to, at least in the same basic league with the current world champions. Those knuckleheads would be wrong.

LeBron is certainly playing at another MVP clip and should win his second straight award when the season ends. Kobe has been playing with a broken finger and his shooting percentage has suffered, along with his minutes and subsequent point totals. Two weeks ago he was sidelined with an aggravated ankle injury, just days after making all-time Lakers news by becoming the leading scorer in Lakers history, passing his idol and the man who originally recruited him for the Lakers, Hall of Famer Jerry West.

Most NBA pundits agree that the Lakers are by far the best team this season and are the odds on favorites to win the trophy once again. They all agree that L.A. is super deep and has the size, speed, and skill to power them through the playoffs. The division final in the West will probably be against Denver or San Antonio, and neither team can match up to the Lakers. It would be major Lakers news if any of those teams can win even two games in any one series against the defending champs.

With All-Star Spanish forward Pau Gasol and emerging superstar center Andrew Bynum guarding the middle and paving the way for Kobe, the Lakers look unstoppable. Once Kobe gets healthy again, the Lakers will roll over all other teams in their way. Lamar Odom is playing great, Ron Artest continues his smothering defense, and Farmar off the bench for Fisher has been hitting the big threes and running the floor. What a team!

There is no convincing scenario where Cleveland can beat the Lakers in the Finals. Experts around the league are not even sure now that Cleveland will even get into the Finals. After going on a fourteen game winning streak, they recently lost three straight to tough teams like Denver and Orlando.

The big Lakers news is that they are on a mission: win a second straight world championship. Nothing else will suffice. Who knows, next season they could be going for one more three-peat.

You know when children’s shoes fit right

April 16th, 2010

Recently my son needed a new pair of shoes because the ones that he had were getting small on him. This time we weren’t going to buy another pair of brand name shoes that have the brand name all over the side of the shoe. We wanted to look for a shoe that was both stylish and comfortable for him to wear. We found this place where you can get boy’s shoes without the name brand all over the shoe and for a very decent price.
When we heard about this we wanted to see this for ourselves and when we checked it out and knew that we needed to purchase a pair of shoes for our son. Before we found these shoes it seemed like you could only find these kinds of boy’s shoes in other countries because we never found them near us. We showed our son the shoes and he seemed to like the style a lot better than the name brand shoes that he has been wearing since he got his first pair of shoes. The first time that he tried the shoes on he fell in love with them. They were so much more flexible and comfortable for him to wear. A big thing in buying children’s shoes is to make sure they fit properly.
When your child puts on his shoes make sure he is standing straight up, tie the shoe up but don’t tie it too tight, and tug at the heel to make sure that the foot doesn’t have too much room to slip around inside the shoe when they are wearing them. Make sure that the ankle bone is sitting just below the top of the shoe. This is important because it will reduce on the number of twisted ankles and it will give the ankle a lot more support. There should be about a thumb width of room from the front of the shoe to the big toe. After you do all of the measurements of the boy’s shoe you need to make your child walk in them to make sure that they are comfortable and that they do not slip off his feet. The same thing goes when you are purchasing boy’s boots. You want to make sure that the boots don’t slip on and off when he is walking and you want to make sure that they boots come up a little above the ankle. You want the boy’s boot to come up a little above the ankle because when he is wearing his boots he is not going to be running around but he is going to be walking and climbing so he is going to need more ankle support.

Buy a Disc Golf Basket Online

April 15th, 2010

There are several videos online on how to make a disc golf basket so you can get started playing and some go into detail which is good. At the same time you can look at sites like eBay.com and see some good ones that are actually cheaper than building.

Which can be fun also if you have the know how and tools but I would rather be practicing and some of the portables are just plain nice to have for out of the norm places.

And handling the chains correctly can be a chore sometimes so these days it may be best to at least look at a few of the commercial baskets first before making a disc golf basket.

The Secret is In The Dirt

April 13th, 2010

Re the talk about Lee Westwood ‘almost’ winning a major in the Masters last Sunday, The Daily Telegraph have a few interesting points. Although, I will never agree with the way the media BASH our sportsmen constantly and NEVER give praise, they do give a great ‘backhanded compliment to Andy Murray, here’s some of the text:

” Lee Westwood will never be a genius like Seve Ballesteros, Tiger Woods, Mickelson or even big John Daly. Westwood will find his major buried in the ground. He just has to go out there and dig a little deeper. People used to view Ben Hogan as a mystical prophet from a far-off land. Once he said: “The secret is in the dirt.” That is where Nick Faldo found his six majors and that is where Westwood will find the final answer. It is out there in the dirt of the practice range. Each time Andy Murray gets close to a major title he goes away and increases his workload. Murray finished second in Australia, Westwood finished second in the Masters. While a few more people give up on them, they go away and work a little harder.

This is ALL that’s WRONG with british sport, instead of supporting our sportsmen and women, the Britsh media knock them when they’re down.

Much more on this here at Andy Murray Matters

Baseball Gloves – Beginner’s Guide to Choosing the Right (or left) Glove

April 12th, 2010

I have coached the game for several years from t-ball to college level baseball. Picking the right baseball glove is one the most important decisions to playing the game right.

Choosing the right baseball or softball first basemen’s mitt for the young ballplayer could be really intimidating. Exactly what length and width should I purchase? How much money should I invest as well as how can I get the very best deals? If my son is lefthanded, does the thinking about what glove to choose change? What’s the best baseball glove to purchase? Being a mother or father or coach, keep in mind that the main thought would be to match up the first basemen’s glove purchase using the level of skill and enthusiasm level of the ball player. you will find a surprising number of options however paying out some huge cash on the player that might not like the sport in a couple of years Is actually foolish. So as a fundamental rule, don’t Invest big dollars for the glove for the child under 10. Concentrate on getting the right size baseball or softball glove and never how much it costs. When the player is older and shows the passion for the game, it’s time to commit more money and get a baseball glove your own player can use for the next 5-6 years. Expect to pay between $80-$150 to find a durable high performing glove. If the player is a first basemen or catcher, it is especially vital that you elect a strong make like Rawlings, Mizuno, Wilson, Nokona or Easton.

There are three basic functions to gloves style. They’ll easily allow you to choose exactly what infield or outfield glove to get for the player

Pocket Depth: Shallow pockets are perfect for positions which involve fielders to easily catch the baseball and throw it to a base after making a pick up. Deeper pockets are made to assist players hold onto fly balls. Softball players also need the much deeper pocket to catch the larger softball.

Webbing: Each baseball and softball glove has either an open web or possibly a shut web. The actual style you choose Is determined by your own fielding position plus your Individual choice. A closed web Is actually typical for all catcher’s mitts and nearly always employed by pitchers In order to hide the bal from the batter. A web is also put to use if the player favors further support when catching. An open web helps ball players, particularly middle infielders, get the ball out of the pocket Easier to make Tosses to bases.

Backs: The choice of an open or shut back Is really a choice as well. An open back has a space above the wrist adjustment on the baseball glove whereas shut back does not. Lots of infielders make use of an open backed glove because it provides them more flexibility. On the other hand, outfielders typically use a closed back having a finger hole for added support

Leather baseball baseball gloves are considerably superior to baseball gloves made from artificial materials. Opt for quality rawhide sewing and strong knots. Be certain your glove fits correctly and that fingers aren’t pinched or crammed Inside the finger openings. You’ll find at least four standard kinds of baseball gloves: infielder, outfield, catcher and first baseman’s gloves. if you’re not sure what they look like, examine The various types ahead of picking one. Outfielders Use bigger mitts compared with infielders. Catchers gloves are usually big as well as cushioned.

Buying the Right Glove for Your Youth Baseball Player

April 12th, 2010

It’s very important to equip your young ballplayer with the right baseball equipment. The right size equipment will give your youth baseball boy or girl more confidence and allow them to play better. Here are a couple of questions that demonstrate why the right glove, bat or other piece of equipment is important.

Did you know that the first time parents buy gloves for their child, over half of them buy a glove size too big for their young player to handle?

Remember, when you try the softball or baseball glove on, make sure the child can make the tip of the glove move by wiggling their fingers. If they can’t– go down a size until they can.

Should you invest in catching equipment for your young softball or baseball catcher if they are 10 years old?

Definitely not, kids are growing like weeds at this age and any equipment you buy will be obsolete in a year. Poor fitting catching equipment is a major cause of catching injuries. Make sure, however, your little league or ASA pony team has good fitting catching equipment. Besides, maybe your player won’t like catching next year!

I coached youth baseball and softball traveling teams for several years. I’ve had hundreds of parents come to me for equipment advice whether their player is six or sixteen. I also played college baseball and got scouted by a couple of major league teams. Believe me, choosing the right equipment is critical whether its girls fastpitch softball or a baseball Cal Ripken league.

Baseball Gloves & Memories With Dad

April 12th, 2010

There is something wonderful about ones 1st baseball glove. If you ever met me personally, you would not expect me to be a very huge lover of baseball. The thing is, I’m not very athletic, and I have never been very athletic. I’m more of an egghead really. I really like mathematics, chess, along with video gaming. As an item of fact, on your typical day I’m more likely to engage in a baseball video game than play catch. Even now, there is something about my own baseball glove that makes it so valuable to me that words and phrases can not capture it: the link it gave me personally to my dad.

The thing is that, playing catch is one thing that dads and sons were doing in this nation for generations, and it’s also something that they’ll continue to do for many more years. A baseball mitt is really a way for a young kid to link with his dad. My dad would have been a very average American dad. He was kind of calm and stern, and had a very difficult time expressing his thoughts. Whenever we were outdoors together and played catch with our baseball mitts, however, I discovered just how much I meant to him. Baseball gloves – and baseball generally is made for that. It might possibly bring families together who would probably struggle to talk as freely otherwise.

My dad realized that I didn’t strive to be on any baseball team and, to his credit, he never compelled me to join. All I wanted to do was to play catch with him and run around, in addition to sometimes shoot hoops with my friends. My very own boy is a lot totally different compared to I was during that age. He really loves anything and everything that has to do with sports activities, and I don’t know where he received it from. Never the less, when I bought him his very first baseball glove, he looked at me with the exact look of happiness that I gave my father when he bought me one. At that time, I understood that he was really and really my boy, and I was his father.

We would play catch every day that season, him along with his new, shiny baseball mitt, and me with my long-standing, worn down one. It was usually a quiet time, nevertheless it was definitely a lot of fun. I do believe that it might have been the very best summer since when I was a kid.

Find a Road Bike for Sale and Go Go Go

April 7th, 2010

It’s that time of year again for road bikes to get going. Of course the hard cores go all year long but now that spring is here again after a cold winter I can’t wait to get going.

There’s a few things that need a tune up before I set out on my first trip like tires and new grips but I’m pretty much set.

I am planning on rebuilding a bike and will need various parts. There’s plenty of places online but if you go over to eBay.com and look for a road bike for sale there will be plenty of excellent used deals.

This is the same place I went to buy a mp3 player but that was for indoor training, I would never use one while riding a road bike, safety first, entertainment second, don’t you think?
